Bookings and deposits

A table booking system with deposits that cuts no-shows

Take bookings from the app, your own website and the phone, ask for a deposit when it matters and send the reminders that get people through the door. Deposits go straight to your own Stripe account.

Every tool is optional.

How do I stop no-shows from emptying my tables?

A Friday booking for six that does not turn up is not a small loss. The table sat empty, the walk-ins went elsewhere, and the kitchen prepped for covers that never arrived. Most no-shows are forgetting, not deciding, and a few are people who book three restaurants and choose at six o'clock.

A paper diary cannot fix that, and neither can a booking widget that takes a name and nothing else. What changes behaviour is a small commitment at the moment of booking, a reminder the day before, and an easy way to cancel that frees the table for someone else.

Mosey gives you all three in one login: bookings from every source, deposits you set the rules for, and reminders that go out without anyone on your team remembering to send them.

How does table booking work on Mosey?

  1. Set your rules once

In Reservations Settings you choose the hours you take bookings, the smallest and largest party, the gaps between sittings and the days you are closed. Then you decide when a deposit applies: every booking, large parties only, peak nights only or specific slots.

  2. Guests book and commit

A guest picks a time that fits your room, sees your deposit and cancellation rule before they pay, and is confirmed. They can book in the app, from a link in your Instagram bio or Google listing, or through a widget on your own website with no account needed.

  3. Reminders do the chasing

Every plan sends a reminder 24 hours ahead. Starter and Host add a two-hour reminder, a two-week reminder and attendance confirmation, so you know on the day who is coming. Seat the party, complete the booking, or mark a no-show.

What do my guests see when they book?

Times that suit your room

Guests only see times that fit your settings. A party too large for your rules is offered the private hire route instead of a booking you cannot honour.

A rule they can read first

The deposit and the free cancellation window are shown before payment. A guest who cancels in time is not charged, and a cancellation, however late, never counts against them as a no-show.

Ways out that help you

From the app a guest can cancel, hand the booking to a friend or offer the table to someone else. A table offered this way can appear as a last-minute table, and if another guest claims it, the first guest's deposit is refunded in full.

Reservation deposits carry no Mosey fee at any plan. The money goes to your own Stripe account, and Stripe's card fee is passed through at cost.

How do I set up bookings and deposits?

  1. Claim your business free and open Reservations. The Free plan covers bookings, walk-ins, the queue, manual entry and 24-hour reminders, up to a monthly booking limit.
  2. Set your booking hours, party sizes, buffers and closures, and hold back a walk-in reserve so you are never fully booked by phone.
  3. Connect your Stripe account in Account and billing. Customers cannot pay a deposit until it is verified.
  4. Choose your deposit rule and your free cancellation window. Start with large parties or peak nights rather than every booking.
  5. Make a test booking yourself on a phone, from your link, and check the times offered, the deposit wording and the confirmation.
  6. Put the booking link in your Instagram bio, on your Google listing and on your website, and add the widget if you have a site.

What does a restaurant booking system cost on Mosey?

Bookings are free for a basic set-up. Starter is €79.99 a month and adds deposits, the waitlist, guest notes and allergens, party rules, extra reminders and calendar sync. Host is €169.99 a month and adds the floor plan, table assignment, the front of house screen, card holds and unlimited bookings. The plan is a flat monthly price with no charge per cover, your first paid plan starts with a 14 day free trial (one per business), and a downgrade never deletes what you set up.

How is this different from a booking widget or a paper diary?

A widget on its own takes names. Mosey takes names, money and rules: the deposit, the cancellation window and the reminders are part of the booking, not an extra you wire together from three tools.

On Host you can add a trust score. A guest with a repeated no-show pattern across the network is flagged to you and can be asked to leave a deposit. The guest is never shown a count or a number, and a late cancellation never counts against them.

Because bookings, the walk-in queue and the till sit in one login, a table that was cancelled can become a last-minute table, and a walk-in can be seated without a second system.

Who is a table booking system right for?

Restaurants and bars that fill their tables on a few busy nights get the most from deposits and card holds. A café with a few tables can keep the Free plan and use the queue for the lunch rush. A tasting menu or a set-price night suits a deposit on every booking. A food truck or a counter-service bakery does not need bookings at all, and can leave this switched off.

Table booking and deposit questions from owners

  • Does Mosey take a cut of reservation deposits?

No. Deposits carry no Mosey commission at any plan. They go to you through your own Stripe account, and Stripe's card fee is passed through at cost.

  • Which plan do I need to take deposits?

Deposits start with Starter. Card holds, where a guest is charged only if they do not turn up, are part of Host.

  • What does the Free plan include?

Bookings up to a monthly limit, walk-ins and the queue, manual entry, 24-hour reminders, QR check-in and source tracking. The pricing page lists the limit.

  • Can guests book without a Mosey account?

Yes, through the widget on your own website. They pick a time, leave a name and number, pay a deposit if you ask for one and are booked.

  • What happens when a guest cancels late?

Your cancellation rule applies, and it was shown to them before they paid. The table can be offered as a last-minute table, and if someone else claims it the first deposit is refunded in full.

  • Can I add a booking that came by phone?

Yes. Add it yourself with the guest's details and the source, so your numbers show where bookings come from.

  • Does downgrading delete my settings?

No. A downgrade never deletes what you configured, so your floor plan and rules are waiting if you come back up.

  • Can I take a booking for a large group?

Parties outside your size range can be sent to private hire and large group requests, where you quote the group and take a deposit before the date is held.
