Set menus for big bookings

Set menus for large group bookings, with a deposit for every head

When a party reaches the size you choose, the booking turns into an event-style sitting. The group picks one of your set menus, pays a deposit per head and the kitchen knows what is coming.

Free to claim

Every tool is optional.

Why are big tables the hardest bookings to run?

A party of twelve is a lot of covers on one ticket. If the group has not agreed what to eat, you find out at the table, the kitchen cooks to order and the pass backs up. If three of them do not show, the whole sitting is thin.

A set menu fixes the first problem and a deposit fixes the second. Together they turn a vague 'about twelve' into a confirmed order you can prepare for.

Mosey builds both into the booking, so you are not chasing a group chat for numbers.

How do set menus work with a booking on Mosey?

  1. Build the menu once

In Menu Builder, create a combo for your set menu, with its name, description and price per head. Then mark it event-eligible in Reservations Settings.

  2. Set the party size

Under Large-party event upgrade, choose the party size that triggers it. Pick any size from two to fifty guests.

  3. The group books and pays

When a customer books for that many people, the app asks them to pick a set menu and shows the deposit per head. They can split the deposit with their guests.

What does the group see, and what do you see?

A menu, not a guess

The group chooses from the set menus you marked event-eligible, each with a name, a description and a price per head. Nothing else is offered, so you only get bookings you can serve.

A deposit that fits the menu

The deposit per head is the price of the set menu, unless you set a flat amount per head. It is multiplied by the party size and shown before the guest pays.

A booking you can prepare for

You are told when a group books a set menu, with the party size, the date and the menu named. It sits in your diary like any other booking.

The deposit can be the full price of the set menu, so a group pays for the food before it is cooked. Your cancellation rule is the one you set for every booking.

How do I set up a set menu for large parties?

  1. Host your business on Mosey and open Menu Builder. Create a combo with your set menu's name, description and price per head.
  2. Open Reservations Settings and find Large-party event upgrade.
  3. Switch on event-style booking for large parties and choose the party size that triggers it.
  4. Mark your set menu as event-eligible. If none is marked, the app has nothing to offer, and the page warns you.
  5. Decide whether the deposit is the set menu's price per head or a flat amount per head. Tick Override per-head deposit for a flat amount.
  6. Check your cancellation rule in Deposit and refund policy. A big group is where a late cancellation hurts most.
  7. Make a test booking for a large party on your phone.

What do set-menu bookings cost?

Reservation deposits carry no Mosey fee at any plan, so a per-head deposit for a set menu costs you only Stripe's card fee at cost. Switching on large-party bookings has no charge of its own.

How is this different from private hire or a group chat?

Private hire is for a space you quote: a room, a date, a package. A set-menu sitting is for a table on your normal floor, booked through your normal diary, with a menu attached. A group that is too big or too custom for a table can still go to group requests.

A group chat settles on a headcount the day before. Here the headcount, the menu and the deposit are fixed when the group books, and the money is already with you.

Who should offer set menus for large groups?

Restaurants that already run set menus: tasting nights, celebration dinners, pre-theatre menus, supper clubs and office lunches. If everything you serve is à la carte, build one short set menu for groups and see who takes it.

Set menus for large bookings: questions from owners

  • Is a set-menu booking a private hire?

No. It is a normal booking on your floor with a set menu and a per-head deposit. For a room, a quote or a bespoke package, use group requests instead.

  • Can guests split the deposit?

Yes. The booker can share the deposit between the guests in the app. If a share is still unpaid twelve hours before the booking, it is charged to the booker's saved card, so your table stays safe.

  • Can I set the deposit lower than the menu price?

Yes. Tick Override per-head deposit and enter a flat amount per head. It applies to every guest in the party, whichever set menu they pick.

  • Does it work through the booking widget on my website?

Not yet. Set-menu bookings are made in the Mosey app, and the widget takes normal bookings.

  • Can I stop it for small parties?

Yes. It only starts at the party size you choose, and you can switch it off at any time.

  • Can guests choose their food on an ordinary booking too?

Yes, on the Host plan. A guest on any booking can pick dishes from your menu after they book, with no deposit attached, and you see the counts on the prep sheet. That is a different tool from a set menu, with its own page on pre-orders.
