No-show protection
No-show protection for restaurants: deposits, card holds and cancellation windows
Stop a booked table going empty. Ask for a deposit, save a card and charge it only if the guest does not turn up, and set the cancellation window guests see before they confirm.
Free to claim
Every tool is optional.
What does a no-show really cost your business?
A table for four that does not arrive on a Friday is not four missing meals. It is the walk-ins you turned away, the kitchen prepped for covers that never came and the staff you rostered for a full room.
Most guests who miss a booking forgot, or changed their minds without telling you. A handful book three restaurants and choose on the night.
What changes the odds is a small commitment when they book, a reminder before the day and a clear rule for cancelling. Mosey gives you all three, and every figure is yours to set.
How does no-show protection work on Mosey?
Choose what guests commit
In Reservations Settings, switch on a deposit and set the amount per person or as a flat sum. Guests see it before they pay, and it goes to your own Stripe account.
Set the window to cancel
Pick the hours before the booking when a guest can cancel for a full refund, and an optional shorter window with a part refund at the percentage you choose. Anything later is forfeited.
Hold a card instead, on Host
A card hold saves the guest's card and charges the deposit only if they do not turn up. You can offer the hold alone, or let each guest choose between paying now and holding.
What do guests see, and what happens when someone does not turn up?
A rule before the payment
The deposit, the refund window and the forfeit rule are shown before a guest confirms. You set how long they have to pay the deposit, from ten minutes to two days, and the table is released if the time passes.
Reminders that get them there
Every plan sends a reminder 24 hours before. Starter and Host add a two-hour reminder, a two-week reminder and attendance confirmation.
A no-show you can undo
Before you mark a no-show, the app tells you what will happen to the money. You can undo it for 48 hours, and a guest can appeal for 14 days.
Cancelling in time never counts against a guest, however late it is. Only a booking marked as a no-show is recorded, and the guest never sees the count.
How do I set up a deposit and a cancellation rule?
- Host your business on Mosey, open Reservations and connect your Stripe account in Account and billing. Deposits need a verified account.
- Choose Starter or Host. Deposits and cancellation fees start on Starter, and card holds are part of Host.
- In Reservations Settings, open Deposit and refund policy. Turn on Require a deposit, choose per person or a flat amount and enter the figure.
- Set the full-refund window in hours before the booking, up to one week, and add a part-refund window if you want one.
- Decide what a no-show costs: keep the full deposit, or apply the part refund.
- On Host, choose how the deposit is collected: charge upfront, card hold or let the customer choose. Then set what happens when a repeat no-show guest books.
- Book a test table on your phone and read the rule the way a guest will.
What does no-show protection cost?
Reservation deposits carry no Mosey fee at any plan, and Stripe's card fee is passed on at cost. Deposits and cancellation fees need Starter at €79.99 a month. Card holds and the repeat no-show rules are part of Host at €169.99 a month. Your first paid plan starts with a 14 day free trial.

How is this different from taking a card number by phone?
A card number on a note is not a commitment you can use. A deposit or a card hold on Mosey is a real payment method held by Stripe, charged by the rules you set and recorded against the booking.
On Host, the repeat no-show rule looks across the Mosey network, not just your own diary. A guest with a pattern of missed bookings can be flagged to you quietly, asked for a deposit or stopped from booking. The guest is never shown a number.
It is fair to guests too. A guest who cancels inside the window loses nothing, and a late cancellation is never counted as a no-show.
Who needs no-show protection most?
Restaurants and bars where a held table costs real money: tasting menus, small dining rooms, busy brunches and any night you turn walk-ins away. A café with open seating can leave deposits off, and the Free plan still gives you reminders and the walk-in queue.
Fill the table you booked
Host your business on Mosey, set one deposit rule and let the card do the chasing.
No-show protection: questions from owners
Can I take a deposit without paying a Mosey fee?
Yes. Reservation deposits carry no Mosey commission on any plan. They go to your own Stripe account, and Stripe's card fee applies at cost.
What is a card hold, and which plan has it?
A card hold saves the guest's card and charges the deposit only if they do not turn up. It is part of the Host plan.
What happens to the money if a guest cancels late?
Your rule applies: a full refund inside the free window, the part refund you set in the next window, and nothing after that. The app shows you the outcome before you confirm.
Can I undo a no-show I marked by mistake?
Yes, for 48 hours. A forfeited deposit is restored and a charged hold is refunded in full. A guest can also appeal within 14 days.
What if a guest does not pay the deposit?
They have the time you set to pay it, and we remind them halfway. If the time passes, the table is released so you can sell it again.
