Privacy on this site

This page is about this website, Mosey's public site, which you can read without an account. You can also order for collection or pay for catering here, where a place offers it. The full Privacy Policy covers Mosey as a whole and is the document that governs.

The short version

  • Reading this site needs no account. The one place you sign in is buying a gift voucher, which uses your Mosey account.
  • Reading a page sets no cookies at all. The only exception is paying: the order and payment pages load Stripe, which handles the card.
  • There is no Google Analytics, no advertising pixel and no tag manager, here or anywhere in Mosey.
  • Apart from Stripe on those pages, and your browser's own alert service if you ask a queue page to alert you, the only servers a page here talks to are Mosey's own, in Ireland.

Cookies

Reading this site sets no cookies. Not essential ones, not preference ones, not analytics ones, and nothing is stored in your browser, so there is no cookie banner. The order page, the catering payment page, the gift voucher page and the membership page are different: they load Stripe, the payment provider, to take the card, and Stripe may store its own cookies or similar data to keep the payment secure and to prevent fraud. The gift voucher page also keeps your sign-in in this browser tab for up to 30 minutes, and it is gone when you close the tab. The membership page keeps your sign-in only while the page is open, not in your browser's storage, so reloading it asks for a new link. The allergen choice on a menu (Hide dishes that list) stays in the page's memory only. It is not stored, not sent to us and not in the address, and reloading the page clears it. And if you ask a queue page to alert you when it's your turn, your browser keeps a small alert helper for the queue pages, and nothing else. The Mosey Games pages (Ladle, Origin and Ingredient) are different: so that your streak and results stay yours without an account, they keep in this browser's storage a random code that is not linked to your name, which of your results and streak belong to this browser, the market and distance unit you chose, and which how-to sheets you have closed. You can clear it in your browser settings. It is never used for advertising or analytics.

The Mosey app and the business dashboard are different: they have accounts, so they need to remember that you are signed in. The Cookie Policy covers those.

What a page loads

Opening a page here fetches the page itself, its stylesheet, its typefaces and its photographs. All of it comes from Mosey's own storage and servers in Ireland. There is no request to an advertising network, an analytics service or a social platform. The one outside service is Stripe, which loads only on the order page, the catering payment page, the gift voucher page and the membership page, and only once you reach the payment step. If you turn on queue alerts, your browser signs up with its own alert service (run by the company that makes your browser, such as Google, Mozilla, Apple or Microsoft) to receive them. The games pages also talk to Mosey's own servers, to fetch each day's puzzle and to check your guesses, so an answer is never sitting in the page. If you ask for places near you after a puzzle, your browser asks your permission first, and your location goes to Mosey for that one search only.

The typefaces are served from this site rather than from Google's font service, deliberately: an embedded font link would send your IP address to a third party before anything appeared on screen, and it is not needed.

Ordering and paying here

You can order food for collection and pay for a catering booking on this site without an account. To place an order we ask for your name, your email address and, if you choose, a phone number, and pass them to the place you are ordering from so they can make your order and reach you about it. We email your receipt and updates about the order to that address. If you tick "Keep me posted" for the place, we record that yes against your email address for that place only, and you can stop it at any time from your order page or by writing to us through the contact page; a stop is kept for a year as the record that you said no, then deleted.

Your card details go straight to Stripe and never reach Mosey or the place. Your name, email address and phone number stay on the order for 12 months after it is collected or cancelled, and are then removed. The order itself, with what was bought and what was paid, is kept for six years as part of the sales record the law requires, with nothing on it that says who you are.

If you later make a Mosey account with the same email address and confirm it, any "Keep me posted" yes you gave here moves to your account, so the place can reach you in the app. You can stop it there in Settings.

Joining a queue

You can join a place's walk-in queue from the QR code at its counter without an account. We ask for your name and party size and, if you choose, an email address and a phone number, and pass them to that place so they can call you and reach you. We email you once at that address when your table is ready, and nothing else unless you tick "Keep me posted" for the place, which we record against your email address for that place only and which you can stop at any time from your queue page. If you turn on alerts on your queue page, your browser gives us an address its alert service uses to reach it. We keep that address against your place in the line only until your visit ends, whether you are seated, leave or are taken off the queue, and then delete it. Your place has its own private link; this site keeps nothing in your browser to remember it, so keep the page open or save the link.

Buying a gift voucher here

A gift voucher is bought with a Mosey account, so the voucher has an owner who can see it, use it and ask for a refund. You enter your email address and we send you a link that signs you in. If there is no Mosey account for that address yet, following the link makes one, and you can sign in to the app with it afterwards. If you buy the voucher as a gift, we email the person it is for with a link to claim it, and they make or use their own Mosey account to do so.

Server logs

Like any website, the hosting keeps standard access logs of requests, which include an IP address, a timestamp and the page requested. They exist to keep the site running and to spot abuse, they are not used to build a profile of you, and they are not combined with anything from the app.

What is public here

The ratings, photographs and lists on this site were published by people using the Mosey app, under the display name they chose. A rating from somebody whose profile is private never appears here, and neither does a rating that has been removed after a report.

Nothing on these pages carries an email address, a phone number or a precise location for the person who wrote it.

Getting something removed

If you wrote a rating and want it gone, deleting it in the app removes it from this site when the site is next rebuilt, which happens every week.

If something here is about you and should not be, or a rating breaks the content guidelines, report it in the app or get in touch and it will be looked at.

The documents that govern

This page describes how one site behaves. The Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy are the operative documents for Mosey as a whole, including the app, and where the two differ, they are the ones that count.
