What Mosey does

Trusted ratings for places to eat in Ireland, from people who ate there

Every rating on Mosey is about one meal, with a photo taken at the table. No place can pay to change a score, and Mosey Gold is earned from ratings alone.

What makes a Mosey rating different?

Most star scores are about a place in general, written months after a visit, by someone you cannot picture. A Mosey rating is about one meal. The person names the dish, adds a photo of what was on the plate and gives it stars while it is still in front of them.

That makes a rating something you can check with your own eyes. You can see what the food looked like, read what the person said and decide whether you would have ordered it too. It is the difference between a number and a recommendation.

How do I rate a meal on Mosey?

  1. Eat somewhere good

After your meal, tap Create in the app and pick the place.

  2. Rate the meal, not the place

Give it stars, name the dish and add a photo of the plate while it is in front of you.

  3. Help the next person choose

Your rating counts towards the place's score and, if it earns it, Mosey Gold.

What does a rating show?

Every rating is built from a few simple parts, so two people reading it see the same things.

Stars, down to the half

Tap the stars or type a precise score, in half-star steps. A three and a half means something different from a four.

The dish and the photo

Name what you had and add a photo of it. Dishes can have pages of their own, so you can see what people loved at a place before you go.

Your own words

Say how the food, the service and the atmosphere were, in as many words as you like. Add tags such as date night or brunch to help others find the place.

How expensive it felt

You are asked how pricey it was, from budget to splurge, so a score and a price sit side by side.

What is Mosey Gold?

Mosey Gold is a mark a place earns when its average rating is high enough. It replaces the plain score on a place's card, so you can spot the places people rate highest at a glance.

A place keeps Gold until its average falls some way below the line, not the moment it slips, so the mark does not flicker on and off. Nobody can buy it. A boost, a subscription or a payment through Mosey changes nothing about who has it.

Ratings from a place's own owner do not count towards Gold, and ratings that have been hidden for breaking the rules do not count either.

How can I use ratings to choose where to eat?

A good score is a start. These habits get you to a better answer in a minute.

  • Look at the photos first. They show the food as it arrives, not as the menu describes it.
  • Check how many different people rated it. A high score from many people tells you more than the same score from one.
  • Read the dish names. If three people mention the same plate, order it.
  • Look for a recent rating. A place changes, and the newest ratings show how it is now.
  • Save places you like to a list, so you can find them again when it is time to choose.

How does Mosey keep ratings honest?

A rating site is only as good as its worst reviews, so the rules are simple and they apply to everyone.

Each person counts once in the number shown beside a score. Anyone can report a rating that looks wrong, and a rating that breaks the rules is hidden. A hidden rating does not count. If you change your mind, you can edit or delete your own rating from the app.

Places can reply to a rating, and their reply sits beneath it for everyone to read. Nobody can pay to move up.

Who are Mosey ratings for?

They suit anyone who has stood outside a place wondering whether it is any good. They are most useful when you are somewhere new, planning a meal for a group or choosing between two places that look the same on a map.

They are for the people who rate too. Rate five different places of one cuisine and your ratings of it start to carry its badge, so the effort of writing a few lines turns into something you can see.

Why trust Mosey ratings over a star score from nowhere?

A star score from nowhere tells you little. A Mosey rating is tied to a real meal and a dish, and the way the score is built is the same for every place.

  • Nothing a place pays for changes how prominent it is. Only Mosey Gold does, and a place earns it from ratings and loses it the same way.
  • A photo from the table is hard to fake and easy to judge.
  • The count shown is people, not ratings, so one enthusiast cannot talk a place up.

Which places hold Mosey Gold right now?

Earned from ratings by people who ate there, and lost the same way.

Your next meal could help someone else choose

Rate it in the Mosey app, with a photo from the table. It is free on iPhone and Android.

Questions about Mosey ratings

  • What is Mosey Gold?

Mosey Gold is a mark a place earns when its average rating is high enough, and keeps until that average falls some way further. It cannot be bought.

  • Do ratings from the owner count?

  • What happens if I see a rating that looks wrong?

You can report it from the rating in the app. Reports go to the Mosey team, and a rating that breaks the rules is hidden.
