Food trails in Ireland: collect stamps across local places

A food trail is a route across several places. Get your passport in the app, collect a stamp at each stop and finish for a badge and, on some trails, a voucher.

What is a food trail?

A food trail is a route across several places to eat. You join in the app, and your passport lists every stop. At each one you collect a stamp, and when you have them all you finish the trail.

It turns a day out into something with a shape. Instead of choosing one place, you get a reason to try a handful, with something to show for it at the end.

How do food trails work?

  1. Pick a trail

Browse trails near you in the app. Each shows its stops, the route, the time to finish and whether it is free or ticketed, so you know before you commit.

  2. Get your passport

Grab a free trail or buy a ticket, for yourself, for a group or as a gift. Your passport lists every stop and keeps count.

  3. Collect a stamp at each stop

Show your QR to staff, or tap the Mosey tag where a trail is self-guided. Stamp every stop to finish.

What do I get at each stop of a food trail?

Every stop gives you three things.

A stamp

Your passport QR refreshes by itself, and you need to be at the place to get a stamp, so a stamp means you were there. If you lose signal, the app shows a saved code that still works for a while.

A trail offer, on some trails

Places can add something for trail walkers, such as a free item or a discount. It is revealed when you join the trail, and the stop list teases what is waiting.

A photo for your album

At each stop, the app asks if you would like to add a photo of it. They go into your passport album.

Are food trails free?

Some are and some are not. A free trail costs nothing to grab. A ticketed trail has a price shown on the trail, and the money from a ticket is shared between the places on the route.

A ticket can cover a small group, who show it together at each stop. You can also buy a trail as a gift for someone, who claims it in their own app.

What happens when I finish a food trail?

When the last stamp is in, your passport tells you the trail is complete and opens your recap. It shows the places you went, your photos and the day you finished.

You earn a badge for finishing and, on trails where the place has set one, a voucher that goes straight into your vouchers. Finish more trails and you work towards the next trail badge. You can also rate the trail and choose who sees your rating: everyone, your followers or only you.

What if I change my mind or cannot finish?

If you have not collected a stamp, you can leave a ticketed trail for a full refund within a day of buying it. If a gift was bought for you, the refund goes back to the person who bought it.

If a trail is paused or has ended, you can leave it for a full refund as well. Each trail sets its own time to finish, and the app reminds you before your time runs out, so you do not lose it by accident.

How do I find a food trail near me?

The Trails page in the app shows trails near you, trails that are new this week, popular ones, trails on for a limited time and trails from people you follow. If a trail is sold out or not open yet, you can ask to be told when tickets are available.

Some towns also have a page on this site listing the trails there, so you can look before you download the app.

Who are food trails for?

They suit friends who want a plan for a Saturday, couples after something different for a date, visitors who want a tour of a town's food and locals who think they know their own streets. They also suit anyone who likes a challenge: a passport that is nearly full is hard to leave alone.

Why is a trail better than a list of places?

A list is something you mean to do. A trail has a start, a route, a finish and a stamp that shows you were there.

  • A ticket's money is shared between the places on the route.
  • If you change your mind, you can leave for a full refund before your first stamp, within a day of buying.
  • You finish with something: a badge, a recap and, on some trails, a voucher.

Questions about food trails

  • Do I have to pay?

Some trails are free to grab and some have a ticket. The price, if there is one, is shown on the trail before you buy.

  • Do I have to visit the stops in order?

It depends on the trail. Some can be done in any order and some go stop by stop. The trail tells you before you start.

  • How long do I have to finish?

Each trail sets its own time to finish. You will see it on the trail and on your passport.

  • Can I get my money back?

Yes. If you have not collected a stamp, you can leave a ticketed trail for a full refund within a day of buying it. If a trail is paused or has ended, you can leave it for a full refund too.

  • Can I go with friends, or give a trail as a gift?

A ticket can cover a small group, who show it together at each stop. You can also buy a trail as a gift for someone, who claims it in their own app.

  • What do I get at the end?

A badge for completing the trail and, on trails where the place has set one, a voucher that goes straight into your vouchers.

  • What if I have no signal at a stop?

The app keeps a saved copy of your code, which works for a short while. It shows you until when.

  • How do I get a stamp?

Show your passport QR to staff at the stop, or tap the Mosey tag there where a trail is self-guided. You need to be at the place to be stamped.
