What Mosey does

Food walks in Ireland: a neighbourhood, one stop at a time

Mosey puts a neighbourhood's places in the order you would walk them, with the distance between each. Pick a walk on the site, then use the app to keep the places you like and rate them after.

What is a food walk?

A food walk is a short route through one neighbourhood, built from places to eat that sit close together. Instead of choosing one place and walking past six others, you get a plan: start here, then here, then here, with the distance between each stop.

Walks are made by Mosey from the places on its pages and the ratings people have given them. They are not sponsored, and they are not a ranking. They are a way to turn a neighbourhood into an afternoon.

How do food walks work?

  1. Pick a walk

Walks live on the Mosey site: on the guides page and on a neighbourhood's page, wherever enough places sit close together.

  2. Follow the order

Each stop shows its rating and how far it is from the one before, so you can see the length of the walk before you set off.

  3. Keep and rate what you try

Add the places you like to a list in the app, then rate each meal with a photo from the table.

How are the stops on a food walk chosen?

Mosey takes the places in one neighbourhood that have a page on the site. The ones people rate most come first, up to eight of them. Then the walk is put in the order that makes the shortest trip between them.

That means a place is on a walk because it is close and well rated, not because it paid. A walk shows Mosey Gold on a stop where a place has earned it.

How far and how long is a food walk?

Every walk page tells you how many places it has, the total distance and the time it takes at an easy pace. The time is worked out at a gentle stroll, so it does not count the time you spend eating.

The distances are straight lines between places, rounded to the nearest ten metres. Real streets add a little, so treat the figures as a guide and check the route in your maps app before you set off.

What do I see on a food walk page?

Each walk is a single page that reads from top to bottom.

  • A summary: how many places, how many minutes on foot and the distance in all.
  • A line that joins the stops in order, so you can see the shape of the route.
  • The stops, in walking order, with the first marked as the place to start.
  • For each stop, its rating, how many people gave it, and Mosey Gold where earned.
  • The distance from the last stop and about how long that leg takes.
  • A short note on how the walk was made, so there is nothing hidden.

How do I get the most out of a food walk?

A few small habits turn a route into a good afternoon.

  • Go hungry, and share plates. Eight stops is a lot if each one is a full meal.
  • Start at the first stop and keep to the order. The walk is shaped to save your feet.
  • Bring a friend. A walk is a good way to catch up and everyone gets to pick a stop.
  • Save the places you love to a list as you go, so you can find them again.
  • Rate each meal when you finish, with a photo, so the next person walking has more to go on.

Where can I find a food walk near me?

Walks appear for a neighbourhood once enough places sit close together on Mosey, so more are added as more places join. Look on the guides page, or on the page for the neighbourhood you are visiting, and you will find the walk linked there.

Each walk also links back to the neighbourhood page, which lists every place to eat in the area, and to the ranked lists of places to eat.

Who are food walks for?

They are for visitors who have an afternoon and do not know the area, and for locals who want a reason to see their own neighbourhood differently. They also suit anyone hosting: a walk is an easy plan for a friend who is in town for the day.

Why is a walk better than a list?

A ranked list tells you what is good. A walk tells you what is close: the places in one neighbourhood, in the order that saves your feet.

  • You see the whole route and its length before you set off.
  • The distances are straight lines, not street routes, and the page says so.
  • You can then keep the places you liked and rate them in the app.

Which food walks can I take now?

Each is made from the places on Mosey in that neighbourhood, in the order you would walk them.

Take the walk, then say how it went

Keep the places you like and rate them in the Mosey app. It is free on iPhone and Android.

Questions about food walks

  • How are the stops chosen?

A walk is the places in one neighbourhood that sit close together, put in the order of the shortest walk. It is not a ranking, so a place is on it because it is close and well rated, not because it is the best.

  • How long is a walk?

Each page shows how many places it has, the total distance and the time at an easy pace. The distances are straight lines between places, so a real route can be a little longer.

  • Why is there no walk for my neighbourhood?

A walk needs several places close together on Mosey. When a neighbourhood has enough, a walk can be made for it, so it may appear as more places join.

  • Can I use a walk in the app?

Walks are pages on the Mosey site. The app is where you keep the places on a list, rate them, and book or order at them.

  • Can a place pay to be on a walk?

No. Nobody can pay to be on a food walk. Places are chosen by how people rate them and how close they are to each other.

  • How many places are on a walk?

Up to eight. Each walk page tells you how many places it has and how far it is from end to end.

  • Do I need an account to read a walk?

No. Walks are open to read on this site without an account.

  • Can I do a walk in any order?

You can, but the order given is the shortest trip between the stops, so following it saves walking.
