How to

Dashboard: Vouchers, sell gift vouchers and redeem them

Mosey · 23 October 2026 · 3 min read

Vouchers, in the sidebar, is where you sell digital gift vouchers and see what is outstanding. A guest buys one in the Mosey app, keeps it or gives it to someone, and spends it at your business. The money goes through your own Stripe account, and Mosey charges 4.5% of the voucher value. A voucher is cash in the bank before the meal, so it also helps in a quiet month.

Five numbered steps for the life of a voucher: a guest buys a voucher in the app, they keep it or give it to someone, it is spent at your business, the till takes it off the bill, then you see the balance in Vouchers. A drawn diagram of the steps, not a screenshot.

How do guests buy a voucher?

Vouchers are off until you switch them on: open Vouchers and turn them on in the settings there, and set up payouts first so the money can reach you. Then guests open your business in the app and choose a voucher value, or a gift for someone else. It is paid at once, so you are not owed anything later. Set values that match how people spend with you: a coffee, a brunch for two, a tasting menu. The gift version lets the buyer send the voucher to a friend, who sees it in their own app.

How do you redeem one?

At the till, attach the guest and apply the voucher to the bill, and it settles part or all of it. A voucher that covers the whole bill on Mosey Pay settles without a card charge. The rest of the bill is paid as normal. The Vouchers page shows the balance left on each, so you always know what you owe in food and drink.

What if a voucher needs to be refunded or voided?

A guest has a legal right to cancel some purchases within a set period, and a venue can approve a refund. A refund of a voucher pays face value back, never the processing fee. A voucher you sold in person for cash is voided, not refunded through Mosey, because you hold the cash; voiding needs the issue refunds permission. The terms are covered in the terms.

What are the rules about expiry?

Rules on gift card expiry differ by country and, in the United States, by state, so check yours before you set one. In Ireland, you should state the expiry clearly where the voucher is sold. Keep your own notes on any rule you rely on, and ask your accountant about unspent balances in your accounts.

How does it fit with the rest of growth?

Use vouchers as the first tool in a quiet month, then add promotions and Deal Hours to bring people in; see promotions, Deal Hours and events. The wider plan is in grow revenue with vouchers, promotions, events and memberships.

How should you price and word a voucher?

Offer two or three values rather than ten, and name them for what they buy, such as a brunch for two. Say plainly what the voucher can and cannot be used for, and whether it covers service and drinks. Check the first voucher you sell by buying one yourself and spending it at the till, so you know what the guest sees and what your staff see. Keep your terms short, and link them where the voucher is sold. Customers read the top line and nothing else, so make the top line true.

What should you tell staff?

Tell staff how to apply a voucher at the till and how to read the balance. Practise once with a test sale before service. A voucher that cannot be found on a busy Friday costs you a goodwill discount, so make this the most rehearsed step on your till.
