Why do I have five tablets on the counter that don't talk to each other?

Many food businesses end up with a till from one company, a card reader from another, an ordering tablet from a third and a booking screen from a fourth. Each has its own login, its own bill and its own idea of what you sold today.

The cost is not only the subscriptions. It is the end of the night, when the cash count, the card totals and the online orders have to be added together by hand, and the VAT split is a guess.

The Mosey till runs on the same menu, the same kitchen screen and the same reports as your online orders and bookings. One login, one menu and one end-of-day report, on whatever tablet or laptop you already own.

How does the Mosey till work?

  1. Open a table, a tab or a takeaway

Open the Till, pick or start a table, and add dishes from the menu you built in Menu Builder. Open a line to change the size, add extras, remove an ingredient or add a note. A custom amount covers anything that is not on the menu.

  2. Send it to the kitchen

Send sends the pending lines to the kitchen display or a printer. With the display you can give lines a course from one to four, so a main is held until the starters are cleared. Allergens declared on each dish print on the ticket.

  3. Take payment and close the shift

Take cash with the change shown in large type, record a card payment on your own reader, or take a payment from a guest's phone with Mosey Pay. Split by item, equal share or amount. At close, count the cash and read the Z report.

What do my staff and my customers see?

A till your team can learn in a shift

Staff see tables, a menu with popular items first and quick modifiers. A staff PIN identifies who rang each sale, and the till can go full screen and ask for a PIN to leave it.

Receipts and a drawer

The sale-complete panel offers print, email or no receipt. A cash drawer connected through a supported printer opens on cash payments, and every opening is recorded.

Control without a fight

A void after a dish was sent needs a reason. Comps, voids and refunds raise an alert to the owner, and refunds are made against the payment, so on a split bill you know which card to return.

Card payments on the till and Mosey Pay share one fee, 0.5% plus VAT, capped at €149 a month before VAT. Stripe's card fee is passed through at cost.

How do I set up the till before service?

  1. Claim your business free and build or scan your menu in Menu Builder, with each dish's VAT rate and where it is sold.
  2. Open the Till group in the sidebar and go to Settings. Choose how the kitchen is reached: a screen, a printer or nothing.
  3. Decide whether to use staff PINs, which receipt options you want and whether a cash drawer is connected.
  4. Give the people who close up the Open & close till shifts permission on the Team page. Staff cannot open or close a shift until an owner grants it.
  5. Connect Stripe in Account and billing if you want to take Mosey Pay or card payments through Mosey.
  6. Ring a few test sales, take a test payment and close a test shift, then run one quiet service beside your old till.

What does a till and card payments cost on Mosey?

The till has no monthly fee. Card payments on the till and Mosey Pay share one in-store fee of 0.5% plus VAT on the bill, capped at €149 a month before VAT, so using both costs no more than using one. Stripe's own card fee is passed through at cost. Mosey takes nothing from tips, and cash taken on the till carries no Mosey fee.

How is this different from a separate till and card reader?

A separate till does not know about your online orders, your bookings or your loyalty programme. On Mosey a reward, a membership perk or a voucher applies at the till, and a completed sale counts towards loyalty.

A fee that scales with every sale keeps growing as you do. The in-store fee here stops at a monthly cap, so a busy month stops costing more after the cap is reached.

Offline selling is optional. The till is online by default, with a banner when the connection fails and the saving controls switched off. An owner can switch offline selling on in Settings, with limits on what can be taken offline.

Who is the web till right for: café, restaurant, bar or food truck?

A restaurant or bar with tables and tabs uses every part of it. A café uses it for takeaway and a few tables. A food truck or a market stall that wants no itemised bills can use Mosey Pay on its own instead. A pop-up with a short menu can run the till on a single tablet. If you need a card reader at the table that is not Mosey Pay, you can record that payment on the till as an external card.

Till and card payment questions from owners

  • What devices does the till run on?

Any modern browser on a tablet or laptop. It is online by default, with a banner if the connection fails. Offline selling is optional and an owner must switch it on.

  • Is there an iPhone app for the till?

Not yet released. The web till runs in the browser today, on a tablet or laptop.

  • Can I split a bill?

Yes. Split by item, by an equal share or by amount, taking several payments on one bill. The till will not take more than the balance owed.

  • How do I take cash?

Choose cash, enter the amount given and the till shows the change due. Cash can open a connected drawer, and every opening is recorded.

  • Who can use the till and who can close a shift?

People with the Take payments (Mosey Pay) permission can sell. Opening and closing a shift needs the Open & close till shifts permission, which owners and managers have by default.

  • What happens when I comp or void an item?

A void after the dish was sent needs a reason, and comps, voids and refunds send an alert to the owner so adjustments are visible.

  • How does the till show VAT?

Each dish has a VAT rate, and takeaway can have its own. The receipt shows the VAT, and the shift reports show VAT by rate.

  • Can I use my own card reader?

Yes. A card payment on your own reader is recorded on the till as external. Payments taken through Mosey Pay use Mosey's in-store fee.
