Fair tipping for staff

Fair tipping for restaurant staff: no tip commission and a clear way to share

Customers can tip at the table, at the counter and on a collection order, with nothing preselected and no pressure. Mosey takes nothing from tips, and the tip-sharing tool works out each person's share.

Free to claim

Every tool is optional.

Why is tipping where trust is won or lost?

A customer who feels pushed tips less next time. A team that cannot see how the pot was split starts to wonder. Both cost you something that is hard to buy back.

And a card tip is a payment: it carries a fee, it lands in the business account, and someone has to work out who gets what and write it down.

Mosey keeps the ask fair, passes the tip to you whole and gives you a record of the split.

How does fair tipping work on Mosey?

  1. Customers choose, with no default

On the confirm screen, the options come from the norm for your country and the kind of service. No tip is a normal choice and nothing is selected for them. Percentages are worked out on the food, before tax, fees and delivery.

  2. Mosey takes nothing on the tip

Mosey takes nothing on a tip. It goes to your Stripe account with the payment, and you pay it out through your own payroll.

  3. Share it with a record

In Staff, open Tips, choose a pay period and see the tips Mosey recorded: card tips at the till, Mosey Pay tips and tips on collection orders. Add cash totals, pick the split and finalise.

What do the team and the customer see?

Three ways to split

Split by hours worked, by role group with percentages that add up to a whole, or by hand with amounts or percentages that must add up exactly. Shares always add up to the pool, to the last cent.

Warnings, not blocks

If something is worth checking, such as managers sharing in the pool or no written policy, Mosey says so. It never blocks you, and it does not give legal advice.

Staff see their own share

Each person can see their own finalised share, the method and the policy that applied, on the Mosey Jobs site. They cannot see anyone else's.

Mosey moves no money in a tip split. It works out the shares and exports them with the hours, and you pay them through your own payroll.

How do I set up tips and tip sharing?

  1. Host your business on Mosey and connect your Stripe account in Account and billing.
  2. Choose where tips are offered: collection orders, Mosey Pay or both. You can switch each off.
  3. Open Staff, then Tips, and set your pay period and your default split method.
  4. Write your tip policy. A short neutral template is there to start from, and each version is dated.
  5. At the end of each period, create the pool, check the sources, add any cash tips, review the shares and finalise.
  6. Export the hours with each person's tip share when you run payroll.

What do tips and tip sharing cost?

Mosey charges nothing on tips, and the tip-sharing tool has no price of its own. Stripe's card fee applies to the whole payment, tip included, as it does for any card payment.

How is this different from a tip jar and a spreadsheet?

A preselected tip nudges customers, and some leave resentful. Mosey preselects nothing and treats no tip as a normal choice, which keeps regulars comfortable.

A spreadsheet at month end loses the detail. The Mosey record shows each source, the method and the written policy that applied, so you can explain any share.

Who should use fair tipping?

Any business that pays out card tips to a team: restaurants with table service, bars and cafés with a tip jar by the till. A one-person business can use the tip options and ignore the sharing tool.

Keep every tip, and keep the team's trust

Host your business on Mosey, take payments with fair tip options and share the pool with a record.
