Take payments in store with Mosey Pay at 0.5%
Mosey · 22 September 2026 · 4 min read

Mosey Pay is paying the bill in the venue, from the customer's phone, with a card they already saved. It costs 0.5% plus VAT, and Mosey's part stops at €149 a month, with Stripe's card fee passed on at cost. It is the only Mosey payment that carries no customer booking fee at all.
How a payment happens
There are two ways round, and you can use either.
Staff-initiated. Your till shows a Take Payment screen. Staff enter the amount and the customer's short code, the customer gets a confirmation prompt on their phone, and they approve it. The bill is paid without a terminal changing hands.
Customer-scanned. You show a QR for the amount, the customer scans it and confirms. Useful at a counter, or when the customer would rather not read a code out.
Either way the customer is confirming a specific amount on their own device, with their own card. Nothing is charged without that confirmation.
Why Mosey Pay costs less than the alternatives
0.5% is the same small fee as a card payment on the Mosey till, and however much you take, Mosey's part stops at €149 a month. And unlike every other paid product on Mosey, there is no €1.29 booking fee on an in-store payment: the customer pays the bill and nothing else.
- 0.5% Mosey fee, plus 23% VAT on that fee, capped at €149 a month before VAT
- Stripe's card fee, passed on at cost
- No booking fee for the customer
- 0% on tips: every cent reaches you
- Stripe's card fee passed through at cost
Tips go to your staff, in full
Customers can add a tip when they confirm. Mosey takes nothing on tips (not a reduced rate, zero), so 100% transfers to the venue. That is a deliberate brand promise rather than a promotional rate, and it is worth telling your staff about.
Loyalty and memberships work at the counter
A Mosey Pay payment records a loyalty visit automatically, so your programme runs at the till without staff doing anything or a customer producing a card.
Membership benefits apply too. If a member's plan carries a standing discount, it comes off the bill at the counter the same way it would in the app.
This is the part that makes an in-venue payment worth more than the card machine beside it: the payment is attached to a person you can recognise, reward and reach again.
Is Mosey Pay secure?
Payment codes are short-lived and single-use. A staff member entering a code that does not exist, or belongs to somebody with no saved card, gets the same unhelpful answer either way, so the till cannot be used to work out who is or is not a Mosey customer. Confirmation always happens on the customer's own device.

How to set up Mosey Pay
- Connect Stripe from Business Info → Account Setup.
- Open Take Payment on your dashboard: this is the till.
- Run one payment on your own phone so you have seen both the staff and customer sides once.
- Show your floor staff the code flow. It is the only part that involves them, and it takes a minute to teach.
- Turn on loyalty if you have not, so counter payments start counting towards it immediately.
Features that work with Mosey Pay
- Loyalty: every in-store payment counts as a visit automatically.
- Memberships: member discounts apply at the counter as well as in the app.
- Order Ahead: collection orders at 1.5%, for the regulars who would rather not queue.
- Ratings and Gold: a customer who paid through Mosey is far more likely to rate you, and ratings are what earn the Gold mark.
Questions
Common questions
What does Mosey Pay cost?
A 0.5% Mosey fee plus 23% VAT on that fee, and Mosey's part stops at €149 a month. Stripe's card fee is passed on at cost. There is no monthly fee, and unlike other Mosey purchases there is no customer booking fee on an in-store payment.
Is there a booking fee on in-store payments?
No. In-store payment is exempt from the booking fee that applies elsewhere on Mosey. The customer pays their bill and nothing on top.
How much of a tip do we keep?
All of it. Tips carry 0% commission, so 100% of what a customer tips transfers to the venue.
Do we need a card terminal?
No. The customer pays from their own phone with a card they have already saved, either by confirming a code your staff enter or by scanning a QR you show them.
Can staff charge a customer without them agreeing?
No. Every payment is confirmed by the customer on their own device, for a specific amount. Staff can request, never charge.
Does an in-store payment count towards loyalty?
Yes, automatically. The visit is recorded without staff action and without the customer producing anything.
Do membership discounts work at the counter?
Yes. If a member has a standing discount on their plan, it applies to the bill in the venue the same way it applies in the app.
When do we get the money?
The card is charged through Stripe Connect and funds settle to your connected Stripe account on your normal payout schedule.
How do refunds work?
You initiate them from your Refunds page and they go back to the customer's card through Stripe, typically within five to ten days. Refunds are your decision, not ours.
