Split the bill
Split the bill for group orders and tables, and get paid for the whole order
Customers can order together in the app and each pay for their own food, and your till can split a table's bill equally or by item. The whole order reaches your business either way, and nobody on your team does the sums.
Free to claim
Every tool is optional.
Why does splitting the bill slow your service down?
A table of six asks for separate bills at the end of the night. Someone on your team stands at the till working out who had the starter, who shared the wine and who owes what, while the next table waits. It is slow, it is easy to get wrong, and the person fixing it is the one you can least spare.
The same thing happens online. One person orders for the group, collects the money from friends later, and sometimes never does. That is their problem until it becomes yours, because a group that is out of pocket does not order from you again.
Mosey puts the split where the money moves. Customers pay their own share in the app, your till splits a table in a few taps, and the kitchen sees one order.
How does splitting the bill work on Mosey?
Order together in the app
One customer starts a group order and invites friends from the app. Each person adds their own items to the shared basket, so every dish has a name beside it.
Everyone pays their own share
The organiser starts the split and the app prices the whole basket once, with every discount, voucher and fee applied. Each guest gets a share worked out from what they ordered and pays it by card on their own phone.
You get one order
When every share is paid, the order is placed. Your kitchen sees a single order, and the full total is paid for. At the table, your team splits the bill on the till instead.
What do customers and your team see when a bill is split?
Shares that match the food
A guest pays for what they ordered, plus their proportion of the delivery fee, the fees and the VAT. A discount applies at the same percentage to everyone, so nobody argues about who had the voucher.
A table split at the till
On the web till, choose Split equally for two to ten people, or Pay by item and tick what each guest had. A shared dish can be split across guests. Each guest pays their share any way they like.
Rewards for each payer
On a group order, each guest earns loyalty on their own share, not just the person who started the order. Everyone who paid can see the finished order in their orders list.
The order is placed only when every share is paid, so you are paid for the whole order or nothing is cooked. Each extra card payment carries Stripe's small fixed card fee.
How do I switch on bill splitting?
- Host your business on Mosey and connect your Stripe account in Account and billing. Customers cannot pay until it is verified.
- Switch on Order Ahead or delivery. Group orders and splitting work on every order that comes through the app, so there is nothing separate to enable.
- Keep your menu and prices current. A share is worked out from the items in the basket, so what guests pay is what is on your menu.
- At the counter, open an order on the web till, choose Pay, then Split equally or Pay by item.
- Give your team the Take payments (Mosey Pay) permission so they can take shares at the till. Refunding one guest's share needs the Issue refunds permission.
- Try it yourself: invite a friend to a group order at your own business and pay a share each.
What does splitting the bill cost?
Splitting has no price of its own. A group order carries the usual commission: 1.5% on collection and 6% on delivery, before VAT on our fee. Splitting at the till costs the same as any card payment on the till: 0.5%, capped at €149 a month. Each guest's payment is a separate card payment, so Stripe's fixed card fee applies to each one.

How is this different from asking the table to settle up later?
Chasing friends for their share is a customer problem that quietly becomes yours. When each guest pays their own part before the order is placed, nobody is left out of pocket and nobody has to remember who owes what.
A bill divided by amount alone ignores who ate what. Mosey works from the items, so a guest who had a salad does not pay for a steak, and discounts, fees and VAT are shared fairly.
Who gets the most from bill splitting?
Cafés and restaurants that serve groups: office lunches, friends ordering collection together and tables of six or more on a Friday. A takeaway with large family orders gains too. A coffee counter that sells single drinks will rarely use it, and nothing needs switching off.

Splitting the bill: questions from owners
Am I paid for the whole order when a bill is split?
Yes. The order is placed only when every share is paid, so you are paid for the whole order, less the usual commission and card fees. Each guest's payment is a separate card payment, so Stripe's fixed card fee applies to each one.
What if one guest does not pay?
The order is not placed until every share is paid. The organiser can cancel the split, and every share already paid is refunded to the guest who paid it.
Can I refund one guest instead of the whole order?
Yes. Refund a single guest's share from the order, if your Team permissions allow you to issue refunds. The other guests' payments are untouched.
How do I split a bill for a table in the room?
Your team splits it on the web till: equally between two and ten people, or by item. Each guest pays their share any way they like.
Does it work for delivery?
Yes. The delivery fee is shared between the guests along with the items, and the order goes out as one delivery.
