Seasonal menus and diner votes

Seasonal menus and diner votes: enter your dish and be voted for

Enter one dish per season, from the Christmas sandwich to the hot cross bun, and be ranked by what diners rate. Diners also cast one vote for the best café, bakery or restaurant for the season, and the results are public.

How do you get noticed for your seasonal special?

Seasonal food sells itself for a fortnight, if anyone knows about it. The Christmas sandwich, the pumpkin spice bake, the hot cross bun: every café has one, and customers go looking for the best of each.

A poster tells the people already in your door. Being ranked tells people who have not found you yet.

Mosey runs a seasonal ranking, and a one-vote question about the best business, for each season in its calendar across Ireland, the UK, the US and Canada.

How do seasonal rankings and votes work?

  1. Enter your dish

In Menu Builder, open the Seasonal tab. When a season is open for entries, pick one of your live menu items for each category, such as the Christmas sandwich or the mince pie.

  2. Diners rate and vote

Diners rate what they eat, and only ratings of an entered dish count towards its seasonal board. Separately, each person can cast one vote for the best business for the season.

  3. Results are public

Dish boards appear in the app by city and by country, and the vote boards are public web pages too. A finished season stays up as that year's results.

What do diners and you see?

A badge on the dish

Your entered dish carries a seasonal badge on your menu in the app, so a customer reading your menu sees which dish is in the running.

Fair by design

Once a season is live, an entry is locked to its dish, so nobody can swap in the dish that is winning. You can still withdraw it, and your history is kept.

Votes that stay anonymous

A vote board needs a minimum number of votes before it shows, so one person's pick is never a public ranking. The board never shows who voted or what they wrote.

Entering a season and being voted for have no fee, and nobody can buy a spot on a seasonal board. It is built from ratings and votes.

How do I enter a season?

  1. Host your business on Mosey and build your menu in Menu Builder. Only live items can be entered.
  2. Open the Seasonal tab. If no season is open for entries, the page says so.
  3. Enter an item as soon as a season opens. Entries open before the season starts, and lock to the dish once it is live.
  4. Check where your seasonal entries stand on the same tab.
  5. Tell your regulars about the season's vote on your counter and your socials. Voting is in the app and takes a minute.

What does entering a season cost?

Entering a season, being ranked and being voted for have no charge on any plan, and no payment can move you up a board.

See pricingCommission is quoted before VAT. Irish VAT of 23% is added to our fee, not to your food.

How is this different from a year-round ranking?

A year-round ranking rewards the same few businesses. A seasonal board starts fresh each year, so a small café with a great mince pie can top the town in December.

It ranks the dish, not the business. Only ratings of the dish you entered count towards its board, so ratings of the rest of your menu do not.

Who should enter a seasonal board?

Cafés, bakeries, bars and restaurants with a seasonal special. Christmas, Halloween, Easter, Pancake Tuesday, St Patrick's Day, Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Lunar New Year, Diwali and Eid are all in the calendar. Hotels cannot enter dishes.

Seasonal menus and votes: questions from owners

  • How many dishes can I enter?

One dish for each category in a season. A season can have several categories, such as a Christmas sandwich and a mince pie.

  • Can I change my entry?

Before the season is live, yes. Once it is live, the entry is locked to its dish. You can withdraw it, and your history is kept.

  • Who can vote?

Any customer with a Mosey account, once for each season. A vote can be changed until the season closes, and the latest one counts.

  • Can I see how many votes I have?

Not on the dashboard yet. It shows your seasonal entries and where they rank, and the public vote boards show the counts.

  • Does it cost anything?

No. Entering a season and being voted for are free.
