Delivery

Restaurant delivery on your terms, without the big cut

Draw your own delivery zones, set your own fees and minimums, and use your own drivers or share a neighbour's. The commission is published, the customer is yours and there is no fleet to hire.

How can I offer delivery without a delivery app taking a third?

Delivery apps bring orders and take a large share of each one. They commonly charge around a third of the order, and the customer who ordered from you is theirs, not yours. For a small kitchen on a thin margin, a busy Friday can leave you working hard for very little.

Running delivery yourself has its own problem. You need drivers standing by at seven on a Friday and nobody at all at three on a Tuesday, and you cannot hire a person by the hour of demand.

Mosey lets you offer delivery from your own page at a published rate, with the zones, fees and minimums set by you. If you have no drivers, you can borrow the ones a neighbouring business already employs and pay per delivery.

How does restaurant delivery work on Mosey?

  1. Draw your zones

Switch on Delivery in Enable features, connect Stripe and type the names of the areas you cover. Mosey maps the boundaries. Each zone carries its own delivery fee, minimum order and estimated time, so a far street can cost more than a near one.

  2. Sort your drivers

Invite your own drivers, who get orders by email and move them through the delivery steps. If you have none, join a driver pool: a nearby business that already employs drivers shares them with you for a flat fee per delivery that the provider sets.

  3. Orders arrive paid

Orders appear in one list with collection orders. Accept, prepare and mark ready, and the delivery moves on to out for delivery. The customer is told at each step and you see the address and any driver notes.

What do my customers see when they order delivery?

The fee before the basket

A customer enters their address and sees at once whether it is inside a zone, with that zone's fee and minimum. Someone outside your area is told before they build an order, not at payment.

A fair total

The total is the food, your delivery fee for their zone and a small booking fee that scales with the order. Vouchers, promotions and membership benefits, including free delivery if you offer it on a membership, apply at checkout.

A way to change their mind

A customer can cancel within your cancel window (two minutes unless you change it) and is refunded automatically. After that it is your decision and they are pointed to you. They can tip for up to 24 hours after delivery.

Delivery is 6% of the food, before VAT on Mosey's fee. Tips carry no Mosey fee, so every tip reaches you.

How do I start delivering in a week?

  1. Claim your business free, build your menu and connect Stripe in Account and billing.
  2. Switch on Delivery in Enable features and open its Settings.
  3. Draw your zones. Start tight and widen later, with a fee, a minimum and an estimated time for each.
  4. Decide who drives. Invite your own drivers, search for a driver pool within a few kilometres, or hire a delivery driver for a single shift through the contractor marketplace, if your business has access to it.
  5. Set your delivery hours, which are often shorter than your opening hours.
  6. Put a test order through to your own address and follow it through to delivered before you open it to customers.

What does delivery cost on Mosey?

Listing is free. When a delivery order is paid, Mosey takes 6% of the food plus VAT on that fee, Stripe's card fee is passed through at cost and the customer pays a small booking fee on top. Tips carry no Mosey fee. If you use a driver pool, you also pay the provider's flat fee per delivery, set by them. Hiring a contractor for a shift is 7%.

How is this different from a delivery app or running your own fleet?

A delivery app takes a large share and keeps the customer. Mosey takes a published, much smaller rate, and the customer orders from your page in an app where you also have ratings, loyalty and a way to reach people who agreed to hear from you.

A fleet of your own means wages whether orders come or not. A driver pool turns that around: a business with drivers earns from its quiet hours, and a business with none pays only per delivery, so a slow week costs nothing.

A pool is a relationship rather than an open marketplace. The provider approves which businesses join. Two businesses cannot be given the same driver at the same moment, and if an order is cancelled before pickup there is no fee, while after pickup the provider is owed part of the flat fee for the journey already made.

Who is delivery right for: café, restaurant, takeaway or bar?

Takeaways, pizzerias and restaurants with food that travels well get the most from delivery. A café with a lunch trade can deliver to nearby offices, and a company that orders for a team can use catering instead. A bar kitchen with a short late menu might deliver only on busy nights. A business with no spare kitchen capacity should start with collection and add delivery later.
